Olivier Filippi

The French nurseryman Olivier Filippi has been gardening and growing plants in the south of France for over 30 years. He is used to long, hot summers with little or no rainfall. At this point where we need to urgently re-think our planting design and the ways we garden because of climate-change, it is useful to draw on the experience of somebody who has been dealing with this since many years.

This book explores how the design of a garden can help you manage better severe drought periods. From carefully planned and planted gravel gardens, to lawn alternatives.

He has developed special techniques how to plant and care for plants so they can withstand long periods of drought. This book also include a useful A-Z list of over 200 plants. Even though they may not all be suited to the colder northern European climate, some are considerably hardier than we think (as long as they have dry feet in winter).

“This is a generously illustrated, thought-provoking and practical book. It is a must-have for anybody interested in creating dry and low-maintenance gardens.” Jackie Herald MSGD in Garden Design Journal
